SakKijâjuk: Inuit Fine Art and Craft from Nunatsiavut is the first-ever nationally touring exhibition of Labrador Inuit art from Nunatsiavut. It opened at The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in St. John's, NL, on October 7, 2016, where it was installed until January 2017. The exhibition will open next at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia this June 17, 2017, where it will be installed until September 2017, before going on to visit other venues throughout 2018/19, including the Winnipeg Art Gallery (summer 2018).
The exhibition includes 85 artworks by 47 artists across 4 generations:
13 works on paper (prints and drawings);
2 paintings;
18 photographs;
22 sculptures in a variety of media;
29 textile works (tapestries, clothing, embroideries, and grasswork);
1 video work;
and a multimedia oral history video installation.
A smaller version of the exhibition may be shown at some tour locations.
